our story

On November 1st, 1996, Mountain Manor opened its doors, born from a vision to restore a Cape Colonial and Heritage Protected Building to its former glory. The restoration process involved removing layers of old wallpaper to uncover hidden architectural treasures like beautiful fireplaces and original wooden floors.

I infused each room at Mountain Manor with its own unique character, using a palette of blues, greens, reds, and oranges, aiming to provide a welcoming, home-like atmosphere for travellers. Over time, we’ve expanded to include Harrow House, a self-catering option next door, enhancing our accommodation offerings.

What brings us the most joy is the connection with our guests, who often arrive as strangers but leave as friends. In 2024, we took a step further in our journey by initiating an intern program, dedicated to nurturing young local talent in the hospitality industry, teaching them everything from daily operations to guest relations.

Meet Michelle

Michelle’s entrepreneurial spirit inspired her to venture into the hospitality industry, founding Mountain Manor Guest House in 1996. Over the years her venture blossomed and Mountain Manor expanded its perimeter to include Harrow House, the house next door that houses all self-catering suites.

Michelle values the simple pleasures of laughter, cozy winter evenings with a fireplace and red wine, and the company of genuine people. She prioritizes a lifestyle filled with healthy activities and positive environments, with her children being the most significant part of her life.

Her expertise spans hospitality and tourism, offering a range of accommodation in Cape Town, and tennis, where she focuses on both grassroots development through her non-profit foundation, all while empowering others towards personal growth and skill enhancement.

Our House Rules are designed to ensure the safety, comfort, and well-being of all our guests. Here are the key points:

  1. Security: Maintaining a secure environment is paramount. We ask all guests to be vigilant about closing doors and gates after themselves to prevent unauthorized access to the premises.

  2. Parking: We provide off-street parking for our guests. Upon arrival, you will receive a remote control for independent access to come and go as you please, along with a special fob tag for property access.

  3. Breakfast: If you’re interested in joining us for breakfast, please let us know when you arrive. Breakfast is served from 7:00 to 10:00 AM.

  4. Concierge Information Directory: For your convenience, we offer a directory filled with recommendations for services, taxis, and restaurants to enhance your stay.

  5. Therapy Room: For those seeking relaxation and pampering, our therapy room offers massages and beauty treatments. Please inquire if you’re interested in booking a session.
