Strelitzia
Botanical name: Strelitziaceae. A genus of five species of perennial plants, native to South Africa. It is named after the duchy of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, birthplace of Queen Charlotte of the United Kingdom. This bold structural plant produces unusually-shaped and striking flowers. The orange and purple flower resembles a brightly-coloured bird in flight. Indigenous to the Eastern Cape, this tough evergreen perennial can withstand dry spells and can also tolerate mild frost, recovering quickly if affected.
