Our historic buildings have a story past that dates back to the early days of Cape Town. Originally part of the farm De Hoop, owned by Olof Bergh, a prominent figure in the Cape Colony during the 17th century. Bergh, originally from Gothenburg and an adventurer with the Dutch East India Company, played a pivotal role in the development of the Cape. His farmhouse, which stood on the grounds where the Gardens Centre now stands, formed the foundation of our present-day guest house.
In 1839, the old De Hoop farm was subdivided into building lots, marking the beginning of the transformation of this area into a vibrant community. The initial small houses built here likely housed pioneers drawn by the allure of gold during the Table Mountain Platteklip Gorge gold rush of the early 1800s.
